Her papier mache dog show is certainly fun.  It is currently delighting visitors (including this local author) at the Mendocino Art Center. The exhibit ends August 31st, 2008.

Most of the life-like dogs have already been “adopted” as evidenced by all the red tags on the signs.  Each and everyone made me smile and smile. Coincidentally, I had a favorite but he was also spoken for. Luckily for me though, I am already blessed with his real live doggie-double at home.

Allthough #10 Sea Drum was professionally decorated, the objects in the home definitely reflect the eclectic taste of the owner. The quirky touches such as the branch hand rail and tree trunks were finds from his property. The shabby chic mirror, shell cabinet, burls and the collection of wall fishes are by local artists. 

The kitchen mural mimics the exact view outside had it been a window instead. I understand that it was an architectural necessity to have a wall by the stove. It was an stunning solution although you won’t be shortchanged for ocean views throughout the house.  

However, my favorite view at the house is the sight of Swift, the neighbor dog. He never fails to visit when any MCR personnel is at the house. We have also been told that he is the one-dog welcoming committe for our guests. For years his predecessor Barkley, also a golden retriever, was MCR’s unofficial customer relations at the house. Although many of our guests and this author miss Barkley, we are heartened that Swift is continuing his tail-wagging welcome tradition.
